About SOS

Samaritans of Singapore (SOS) was established on 1 December 1969. We are a non-profit and non-religious organisation which aims to provide 24-hour confidential emotional support to people in crisis, thinking of suicide or affected by suicide.

Our Vision:

To be an available lifeline to anyone in crisis.

Our Mission:

SOS provides confidential 24-hour emotional support by trained volunteers to people in crisis, thinking of suicide or affected by suicide.

Our Goals:

Prevention
At SOS, we believe that “Suicide Prevention is Everybody’s Business”. Through professional workshops and talks, SOS aims to educate the wider community on suicide prevention and the resources available. Every year, 10 September marks World Suicide Prevention Day to promote worldwide commitment and action to prevent suicides. In Singapore, SOS organises an annual Suicide Awareness Week every September; during which we hope to raise general knowledge about suicide in the community.

Intervention
This is done via SOS 24-hour hotline, counselling sessions and in some instances, on-site during emergency situations.

Postvention
When there has been a suicide death, family, friends and other people are affected too. Through our outreach and support services, SOS also provides emotional support to those bereaved by suicide.
